Via The Distracted Dilettante, it's the birthday of Edna St. Vincent Millay!
the concert is named after one of her poems, as I explained in the inaugural post. (Boy, does that seem like a lifetime ago...) In honor of her day, here is another favorite.
Assault
I had forgotten how the frogs must sound
After a year of silence, else I think
I should not have ventured forth alone
At dusk along this unfrequented road.
I am waylaid by Beauty! Who will walk
Between me and the crying of the frogs?
Oh, savage beauty, suffer me to pass,
That am a timid woman, on her way
From one house to another.

Wow! I had forgotten how good poetry could be. Thanks for reminding me!
That *is* an awesome poem, ACB. I hadn't read it before. It was/is a real treat for the mind's eye.
Millay isn't thought of as serious stuff these days, I think. Whatever that means. I adore her.
Yay! Thanks for celebrating her. She's my cousin twice removed.
